Davidson Plum Extract
Packed with natural anti-inflammatory compounds to help with repairing hair. Also contains natural tryptophan, an amino acid that helps with sun damage and improves moisture, conditioning and smoothing out frizzy hair. This extract is infused with glycerine, which is a well loved naturally derived conditioning agent for the hair.
It is extracted from the tree under high pressure. Glycerine is produced by the traditional method; hydrolysis of fats and fermentation of sugars using alkali carbonates. This ingredient has both natural and naturally derived components.
A nutritionally powerful fruit with high antioxidant properties, Davidson Plum’s aroma evokes rosella jam and stewed rhubarb, while its flavour is a delightful balance of tart and sweet with intense fruity overtones. It is a great addition to desserts, smoothies, homemade jams and sauces or simply as a natural food colorant.
An antioxidant powerhouse, Davidson Plum is a strikingly sumptuous, deep, dark purple fruit with blood red flesh. It provides an excellent source of potassium, necessary for good heart, muscle, nerve and kidney function. It also contains Vitamin E and zinc, which promote glowing, youthful looking skin!
Growing in several varieties, the Davidson plum (also known as Davidsonia) is a native tree found in areas of subtropical and tropical rainforests of eastern Australia. It was traditionally ‘bush tucker’ for Indigenous Australians in northern New South Wales and Queensland, who had the fortitude to eat them raw despite the fruit’s sharp acidity.
The Davidson plum has long been a food source for Indigenous Australians, who consumed the fruit raw despite its extremely sour taste. It has also been eaten by colonial settlers since the early 1900s, but they preferred to use the fruit in jams and cakes instead. The fruit was wild harvested for many years, however the popularity of the fruit – both as an ingredient for a range of food products and growing market demand – has seen the establishment of commercial plantations since 1990.
