Defining 'Natural'

These are ingredients such as essential oils, that come straight from earth and who's molecules have not been scientifically altered.

Defining 'Naturally Derived'

This means the majority of the molecule (not less than 50% by weight) is derived from natural materials, these materials may have been scientifically modified to best suit the purpose. When we select naturally derived ingredients, they are always thoroughly vetted for ethics, safety & processes.

Defining 'COSMOS approved'

These are ingredients that may be naturally derived or nature identical, and they are of the safety and environmental standard approved by COSMOS organic cosmetic regulations. For us, these ingredients are our preservatives - we want to keep your products of the standard they were when you bought them, so these ones from COSMOS were our pick.

Defining 'Functional'

Lastly, there are a handful of ingredients across our products that are simply man-made/synthetic. It’s a little scary to openly advertise this, since our industry has created this marketing smoke and mirror in greenwashing perfectly safe, researched, often nature identical & widely used ingredients in natural products, such as these. But our intuition is urging us to lift the curtain that the ‘clean beauty’ industry has created. These ingredients are WIDELY used in all your favourite ‘natural’ products. So, you may ask, why bother talking about them if they’re safe, and everyone else is greenwashing? The answer is, if not us, then who? Because whilever ingredients are being greenwashed the average consumer doesn’t have a chance to fully understand what’s in their products, and therefore can’t easily make informed decisions. We’re here to empower you. Read all about the few safe, completely man made/synthetic ingredients we’ve chosen for their functionality in our INGREDIENTS page. And look out for brands who are labelling with specific terms like this, and avoid the blanket statements (you never know what’s hiding in a product when it’s been greenwashed)
